Nintendo has released a new three-minute trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, ahead of its exclusive release on the Nintendo Switch on May 12. The trailer features protagonist Link journeying across the vast and varied landscapes of Hyrule, encountering new enemies, and reuniting with returning characters. Producer Eiji Aonuma recently confirmed that the game had gone gold, indicating that it was ready for release after experiencing multiple delays.
The trailer showcases the game’s floating Sky Islands, where enemy factions fight each other, offering opportunities for players to join in and claim the spoils of battle. Link’s new powers are also highlighted, including the ability to rewind time on inanimate objects, fuse objects to create stronger weapons, and more. A corrupted arm of Link is also revealed, possibly linked to his new abilities.
The new trailer introduces a mysterious character of Zonai origin, who approaches Princess Zelda and refers to Link as the “last line of defence.” Zelda is also shown in a new archaic outfit with shorter hair, indicating a past setting. The trailer showcases breakable weapons, as seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and introduces new abilities such as the Ultrahand, which can be used to create vehicles and traverse the world.
The boar-like villain King Ganondorf returns, imbuing his soldiers with dark power. The trailer also implies that players can group up with other characters and engage in tag-team battles. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be exclusively available on Nintendo Switch from May 12.
