PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition that occurs due to hormonal imbalance, which affects every 1 in 5 women of child-bearing age. As a dietician in Gurgaon, I understand that lifestyle patterns such as the way we eat and exercise can make the condition better or worse. Increase in weight is one of the most significant risk factors of this condition, which means that it can lead to this condition.

Diet and exercise are important parts of managing PCOS.

We start by taking a detailed history of the client and doing the body composition analysis to understand the body better. Then based upon the above-mentioned information, we chart the diet plan of the client. The diet plans are mostly low glycemic index plans, and we avoid all kind of processed and refined foods as it helps in improving the condition. The diet plans can be planned in two ways – plans with a lot of healthy options (one-time consult) or the structured PCOS diet program, which involves daily diet plans given in a weekly format.

In our PCOS program, we focus on a healthy balance of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, plant-based protein, lean meats, and healthy fats. We don’t recommend any special foods, as it’s all about eating a healthy, balanced diet. We educate our clients on the healthy way to incorporate their favorite foods in their diet plan.

Young women with PCOS often have higher levels of insulin (a hormone) in their blood, and many have trouble maintaining a healthy weight. Knowing the right foods to eat, as well as the kinds of food to limit, can improve the way you feel and help you lose weight. Eating well, staying active, and maintaining a healthy weight (or losing even a small amount of weight if you’re overweight) can improve PCOS symptoms.

If you’re struggling with PCOS, it’s important to seek the help of a dietician who can help you understand the right foods to eat and develop a personalized diet plan to manage your symptoms. With the right diet and lifestyle changes, PCOS can be managed effectively, and you can lead a healthy, fulfilling life.
